New successes ahead: how future scientists train at the Olympic School
What happens when 25 of the country’s most promising young mathematicians retreat to Lake Balaton for four days to live exclusively for science? The answer is found in Balatonszemes, where the Olympic School's latest mathematics preparatory course took place. Powered by Frontiers, the Matfin initiative is a creative workshop for future generations.
The Olympic School concept breaks away from traditional educational frameworks. Participants step out of their usual school routines to devote all their attention to their passion: solving complex mathematical problems. There are no limits in 45-minute classes; students can achieve a level of focus rarely possible in a classroom setting.
On this occasion, professional standards are guaranteed by two iconic figures of Hungarian mathematical talent development, Sándor Dobos and Géza Kós. These mentors share decades of international competition experience and directly help students overcome the most difficult obstacles. This type of professional leadership is an irreplaceable value for young people preparing for competitions and scientific careers.
Another advantage of the Olympic School is the sense of community and shared interests. The tension of intense morning competitions is relieved by afternoon sports and long conversations. For young talents, mathematics is a tool for understanding the world. Here, they enter an environment where, because of their outstanding abilities, they do not feel like outsiders, but valued members of a cohesive community.
The effectiveness of this talent development is proven by the outstanding results students have achieved since then at the most prestigious national and international competitions:
Romanian Master of Mathematics: At one of the world’s hardest invitational competitions, our students won 1 gold and 1 bronze medal, as well as 2 honorable mentions.
European Girls' Mathematical Olympiad: At the olympiad held in Bordeaux, the Hungarian delegation returned home with 1 silver and 3 bronze medals.
Hungarian National Academic Competition – Mathematics Category III: Our students claimed both 1st place in a tie and 3rd place.
We believe outstanding ability can truly unfold when we provide the right professional support and an inspiring environment. This is the goal of Frontiers and the Matfin Foundation: to provide a space for talent where students' curiosity can run wild. The results speak for themselves.
